The start of Aslan’s two-year fellowship training program at Jimma University Medical Center marks the beginning of our partnership with Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital (GCH) in Nairobi to increase capacity within Kenya and, more specifically, within GCH to treat cancer in children and adolescents.

Through a partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Dr. Miguel Bonilla joins Aslan as Clinical Director for our new pediatric cancer program at Jimma University Medical Center.

Aslan Medical Advisory Board member Dr. Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo returns to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to become its Executive Vice President, Chair of the Department of Global Pediatric Medicine, and Director of its International Outreach Program.

The Aslan Project and the Indus Hospital (TIH) sign a memorandum of agreement to establish activities to increase capacity within Pakistan, Ethiopia, and other agreed LMICs to diagnose, treat, and care for children and adolescents with cancer. Aslan’s Medical Director, Dr. Aziza Shad, will take the lead in developing capacity in pathology and Humanism in Medicine at TIH.

TAPCCO, the parent group sponsored by The Aslan Project to support families and children in treatment at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, becomes a member of prestigious Childhood Cancer International.

The International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP) selects nurses from three continents to receive The Aslan Project nursing scholarships to attend the 47th Congress of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) on October 5-11 in Capetown, South Africa.
