Dr. Shilpa Murthy, Program Coordinator of our Rwanda Breast Cancer Initiative (RBCI), has received the American Council of Surgeons Surgical Resident Volunteerism Award for her transformative work with the RBCI. With support from The Aslan Project, Dr. Murthy developed a Clinical Breast Exam Simulation Training Course to provide care and educate surgical, internal medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology residents and medical students at the University of Rwanda.

Aslan’s Co-Founder and Medical Director, Dr. Aziza T. Shad, becomes the Ellen W.P. Wasserman Chair, Department of Pediatrics, The Herman & Walter Samuelson Children's Hospital at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore; Chief, Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

As part of our effort to build an oncology capability at Jimma University Medical Center, Aslan sponsors the Chair of the Department of Pathology at JUMC and a technologist for a 3-month observership in Coimbatore, India, and a pathology resident to attend an intensive 6-month training at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, India.

Aslan sponsors the Director of Nursing Services and a senior pediatric clinical nurse at JUMC to participate in intensive instruction and educational course in pediatric oncology nursing at Children’s Cancer Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan.

Aslan signs an agreement with Jimma University to establish a comprehensive pediatric and adolescent health system at Jimma University Medical Center (JUMC).
